Crystal Ball checks covered
TITLE_MISSING, TITLE_TOO_SHORT, TITLE_TOO_LONG, duplicate titles
What the flag means
Crystal Ball flags title tag issues when a page has no title, a title that is too short to explain the page, a title that is so long it may be cut off, or a title that looks duplicated across pages.
This is a problem because the title tag is one of the clearest labels for a page. Search engines use it to understand the page, and searchers often see it as the blue clickable result. A weak title is like a shop sign that only says “Page.†Technically present, magically unhelpful.
Common causes
Common causes include blank CMS SEO fields, copied pages, default theme titles, product or service pages using the same pattern, and titles stuffed with too many keywords. The fix is usually not complicated: make each important page specific.
How to fix it
- Custom HTML/static: Edit the page
<title>in the HTML<head>. Google’s title link guidance is the best reference for what search engines may show. - WordPress: Use your SEO plugin’s page title field, commonly Yoast SEO. Yoast documents editing SEO titles and descriptions and template defaults.
- Shopify: Edit the search engine listing title for products, collections, pages, or the store homepage. Shopify documents SEO title and description fields.
- Wix: Open the page’s SEO Basics and edit the title tag. Wix documents adding SEO title tags and meta descriptions.
- Webflow: Open Page settings and edit the SEO title. Webflow documents SEO title and meta description settings.
