Following these 3 website tips will improve your credibility
While perusing some of my competitors’ websites, I found a rather awful specimen at http://seo.biz. I had to double check that this was another website company. Sure enough, it is. The site has a lion graphic that has no relevance to the topic, multiple fonts, line numbering that is not in line and a broken link. This is all above the fold.
When I say: “above the fold,” I am referring to text and images visitors see before they scroll down the website page. Content that is above the fold has a much better chance of actually getting read. Your best content should be above the fold.
Sometimes we get so preoccupied with beautiful graphics and trying to show our expertise on something that we forget common sense. I strongly feel that relevant graphics, consistent fonts and line numbers are mandatory.
- Relevant graphics. Graphics should be added to your website and blog entries. People like graphics. Graphics also present an opportunity to embed an SEO-friendly title, alternative text and caption.
- Consistent fonts make the text easy to read. Your readers will understand what text goes together and what text falls under a different section. Headlines should be in a different font. They tell the reader that you are introducing a new theme.
- Line numbers and bullet points help focus your reader’s attention. They show items that are important but also do not need an entire paragraph of text to explain.
Take a look at the specimen and write back to me with any comments. If you ever catch me publishing a website page this awful, feel free to cut me in half with my own chain saw.
