Why you should use Facebook Friend Lists

Do you have too many Facebook Friends?

How many Facebook Friends do you have? 1,000? 2,000? 3,000? I have nearly 4,000 Facebook Friends. I used to think this was worth bragging about. I don’t anymore. Instead, I am focusing on filtering my Facebook News Feed. This filtering will help me see posts from people:

  1. Who I know in person
  2. Who write content I find valuable
  3. Who have funny things to say.

Facebook Friends Lists

Let me introduce you to the Facebook Friends Lists feature. You can create a list of Facebook Friends. You can then add Friends to this list. When you log in to Facebook, you can pull up this list without manually scrolling down through your News Feed.

I am copying content from https://www.facebook.com/help/190416214359937/.

“You can add individual friends to lists by hovering over the Friends button at the top of their timeline and selecting from the list names that appear. If you don’t see the name of the list you’re looking for, click the option to show all of your lists.

  1. You can also edit your lists or create custom lists right from your home page:
  2. Click the Home link (along the top-right of every Facebook page)
  3. Find the list you want to edit in the left column, or click the More link next to Friends
  4. Select the list you want to edit or click Create a List
  5. Search for your friends in the search bar at the top of the page, or add people from the List Suggestions on the right”

How to use a Facebook Friend List

You can login to Facebook and go directly to a list. I have two lists, Professional and Close Friends. They both appear on the left frame. I simply scroll down the left frame, find the list I want to look at and then click it.  When you are looking at a Facebook Friend List, you will see its URL (Internet address) in your browser’s address bar. That is valuable.

You can place a shortcut on your desktop. One of my lists is at https://www.facebook.com/lists/280403481989385. With a shortcut on your desktop, you can simply click the shortcut and go straight to the list. Facebook will present a login prompt if you’re not currently logged in.

To create a desktop shortcut in Windows, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the web page you want as the target
  2. Copy the URL (Internet address)
  3. Go to a blank place on your Windows desktop
  4. Right-click your desktop
  5. Choose New > Shortcut
  6. Paste the URL and click Next
  7. Type a name and click Finish

You can test this by clicking the new shortcut. It will take you straight to your Facebook Friend List. This will save time and help you get to posts from people you feel have valuable content. Enjoy.

“Yes yes yes,” you may say, “these guys are a dime a dozen. Why should I do business with this guy”? Here are three reasons:

1. I used to think this was useless. My business almost failed. I decided to change my attitude about Internet marketing, search engine optimization and social media. My business recovered. If you think this is useless, I can help you embrace this as a valuable tool to grow your business.

2. My ideas work. I can show proof of campaigns that achieved page one placement.

3. I am running a business too. I believe SEO and social media are tools you have to use to meet your objectives.

We’re not living in 2005 anymore. Running a successful business isn’t as easy as it used to be. The margin of error is smaller. You have to be good at what you do and your marketing has to be great. If so, you get to stay in business. If not, you become a statistic. Contract out the marketing to someone you can hold accountable. You’re running a business here. Call (916) 752-6767 today.
