9 tips to increase your online branding. Today: tip 9 of 9

Branding Week is over! We are at the finish line. It was a fun race, wasn’t it? I created posts centered on branding and posting them daily. Branding is crucial now more than ever. Your competitors are local, national and international. You compete on the Internet stage. Someone can find you and learn you are 10 minutes away. Someone can find a vendor in your profession and learn they are 10 time zones away! That vendor may be your competitor. Your job is to show the prospect you are uniquely able to provide the products and services they need. They need to hire you and only you.

Branding tip: when something great happens, tell everybody

When something great happens, make sure everyone knows. It helps solidify your branding as a successful person. This helps cement in peoples’ minds that you attract success. Success happens in your personal life. Success happens in your professional life. Success happens to people who do business with you.

When I finish my Sunday morning bike rides, I post on Facebook, “Finished a ** mile bike ride today. The weather was beautiful, like usual.” People read this and form the impression that I am a successful cyclist.

When I toured the local NBC Affiliate, I sat at the anchor’s desk. Someone took my picture, posted it on Facebook and tagged me. I made that picture part of my personal profile. My 3,900+ Facebook fans will see that picture when they look at my personal profile or a post I wrote. They will ask, “Wow, Mark must be a successful guy. He had his picture taken at the TV station.” I do not get into TV stations too often. This was a very good day.

As you go about your daily activities, let me ask what good things happen to you. Do you get promotions or raises regularly? Do you win new business for your company? When was the last time something great happened? How did you promote it? If you promote your successes, people will associate you with success. Attracting your ideal customers will become easier. Engaging with them will be easier, because they already feel you will deliver success for them.

“Yes yes yes,” you may say, “these guys are a dime a dozen. Why should I do business with this guy”? Here are three reasons:

1. I used to think this was useless. My business almost failed. I decided to change my attitude about Internet marketing, search engine optimization and social media. My business recovered. If you think this is useless, I can help you embrace this as a valuable tool to grow your business.

2. My ideas work. I can show proof of campaigns that achieved page one placement.

3. I am running a business too. I believe SEO and social media are tools you have to use to meet your objectives.

We’re not living in 2005 anymore. Running a successful business isn’t as easy as it used to be. The margin of error is smaller. You have to be good at what you do and your marketing has to be great. If so, you get to stay in business. If not, you become a statistic. Contract out the marketing to someone you can hold accountable. You’re running a business here. Call (916) 752-6767 today.
