Branding question of the day, "Why should I do business with you?"

Branding question of the day, “Why should I do business with you?”

Welcome to Branding Talk! I am creating posts centered on branding and posting them daily. Today, we get tip 1 of 9. Branding is crucial now more than ever. Your competitors are local, national and international. You compete on the Internet stage. Someone can find you and learn you are 10 minutes away. Someone can find a vendor in your profession and learn they are 10 time zones away! That vendor may be your competitor. Your job is to show the prospect you are uniquely able to provide the products and services they need. They need to hire you and only you.

Branding tip 1: why should I do business with you?

People will ask. I gave a speech in the San Francisco Bay Area. Afterwards, a man walked up and asked, “In 15 words or less, why should I do business with you?” I did not have a good response. I DID have a long drive back home.  I will present some generic responses that you can tweak for your profession, niche or whatever you are promoting.

Try one of these:

  1. I was hesitant at first. I gave it a shot. It works great.
  2. It works for my clients.
  3. You can get more done in less time if you do this.

You can tweak one of these for your profession, niche or whatever you are promoting. I do not own these. No trademark involved here. You can also use these to help create one that is very specific. At www.cameronparkcomputer.com, the branding is “We help you compute.” At www.yourseowizard.com, the branding is “Using web tools to help you get more customers.”

Consistent branding is key

You will use this in your online profiles. Be consistent. People will check you out many times before deciding to contact you. A consistent brand will help them identify what you do and how you can help them.

“Yes yes yes,” you may say, “these guys are a dime a dozen. Why should I do business with this guy”? Here are three reasons:

1. I used to think this was useless. My business almost failed. I decided to change my attitude about Internet marketing, search engine optimization and social media. My business recovered. If you think this is useless, I can help you embrace this as a valuable tool to grow your business.

2. My ideas work. I can show proof of campaigns that achieved page one placement.

3. I am running a business too. I believe SEO and social media are tools you have to use to meet your objectives.

We’re not living in 2005 anymore. Running a successful business isn’t as easy as it used to be. The margin of error is smaller. You have to be good at what you do and your marketing has to be great. If so, you get to stay in business. If not, you become a statistic. Contract out the marketing to someone you can hold accountable. You’re running a business here. Call (916) 752-6767 today.
