Welcome to Branding Week! We are half finished. I am creating posts centered on branding and posting them daily. Branding is crucial now more than ever. Your competitors are local, national and international. You compete on the Internet stage. Someone can find you and learn you are 10 minutes away. Someone can find a vendor in your profession and learn they are 10 time zones away! That vendor may be your competitor. Your job is to show the prospect you are uniquely able to provide the products and services they need. They need to hire you and only you.

Branding tip 4

You need a professional picture. You need a picture that will show you in professional attire and inspire people to continue investigating you.

When people find you online, they will find your online profile at one of the big social media services, such as Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter. They will see your picture, your name and a tagline. If the picture is professional, people will continue investigating you. If the picture is rather scary or if the picture shows you looking drunk or with a goofy facial expression, people will continue looking.

Remember, people are still checking you out. They are asking if they can do business with you. They are asking if they can trust you with their money, their kids or their careers. They are in discovery mode. A professional picture will entice them to continue investigating you. A scary picture will push them away.

In my speeches, I show two pictures on the same slide. One has a person’s butt with the lettering “Kiss My.” The other picture is of Donald Trump. Mr. Trump is wearing a suit, like usual. Say what you will about Donald Trump’s politics and celebrity, but remember he usually is wearing a suit. As for the “Kiss My” person, I think he/she is pushing people away.
